Ola Electric has regained its top position in India’s electric two-wheeler (EV 2W) market, securing a 24.91% market share in January 2025. The company sold 24,330 units, reclaiming its leadership after being temporarily overtaken by Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors in December 2024.

Market Overview

TVS Motors closely followed Ola Electric, selling 23,788 units and capturing a 24% market share, while Bajaj Auto ranked third with 21,294 units, accounting for 21.80% of total sales. This intense competition highlights the rapidly evolving landscape of India's electric two-wheeler industry.

Ola Electric attributes its renewed dominance to the expansion of its sales and service network, which now includes 4,000 retail outlets nationwide. The company’s S1 portfolio and recently introduced Gen-3 lineup have also contributed to its growing appeal among consumers.

Official Statement

A spokesperson for Ola Electric stated, "It has been an impressive start to the year for us as we emerged as a clear leader in the EV 2W industry yet again. While we are committed to further cementing our position in the segment, our recently launched Gen-3 portfolio has set new benchmarks in performance and reliability across the two-wheeler industry in India."

Performance of Key Competitors

  • Ather Energy: Sold 12,895 units, securing a 13.20% market share. The company is also nearing its IPO launch, having recently received approval from SEBI.
  • Greaves Electric Mobility: Sold 3,611 units, maintaining a smaller yet steady presence in the market.
  • PURE EV: Recorded sales of 1,650 units, contributing to the increasing adoption of electric mobility.
  • Hero MotoCorp: Despite its dominance in the petrol two-wheeler market, the company continued to struggle in the EV segment, selling only 1,615 units in January.

Our Opinion on the News

Ola Electric’s return to the top reflects its strategic focus on product innovation and network expansion. However, with TVS Motors and Bajaj Auto posing strong competition, maintaining this lead will require sustained innovation, superior after-sales service, and deeper market penetration beyond metro cities.

The EV two-wheeler market in India is evolving rapidly, with increasing consumer interest, government incentives, and competitive pricing playing crucial roles. Ola Electric's ability to retain leadership in this high-stakes race will depend on how effectively it capitalizes on these opportunities while addressing consumer concerns like battery performance and charging infrastructure.
